THE PROBLEM

The carbonfund.org website was receiving over 1000 visitors a day until early 2012 when a website redesign and hosting transfer project resulted in a complete loss of traffic for several days followed by a slow restoration that was nowhere near the previous levels.

The president and CEO, was told about Bolt Digital Strategies and came to us looking for help. Our initial analysis revealed that the site transfer had been done poorly resulting in loss of referral traffic and the new site was not well optimized. However, we also uncovered a deeper problem, the organic search traffic had been falling for months driven by a change in search behavior. The terms use to describe the issues had changed and the website content no longer matched.

THE STRATEGY

We brought in our own web design team who rebuilt the website applying user experience principles, we also identified all the major referrers and apply redirects to align them with appropriate content.

We changed content to reflect current keyword usage and we focused on improving website speed. We also made sure all pages were well optimized for search engines.

THE RESULTS

We improved traffic to the website as a whole, but also improved many of the engagement metrics so the visitors spend more time on the site and accomplished more of the goals.

As you can see in the chart we had traffic back above 1.000 by May and continued to improve after.
